New CEO to rework Volvo lineup

Volvo's new CEO Stefan Jacoby is planning the automaker's future after Ford ownership as it plans to rework its portfolio in advance of vehicle refreshes. Not only is Volvo planning to drop several models, it may add two small vehicles to help it better compete with luxury marques like BMW.

Main points:
No more wagons in North America
S40 being removed from NA lineup - presumably will remain elsewhere
Small CUV/crossover to compete with BMW X1
S80/XC90 to share platform

First video of all-new 2011 Volvo V60

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knUkVdfNkB0&NR=1

The subscript says it's shot in the LA area, which is believable given the sunshine! Interesting choice of white to showcase the cars shape, makes an interesting counterpoint to the vibrant copper used throughout the concept and initial promotion period for the S60. Looking forward to seeing this car in real life!

Sketch of what could be - impression of upcoming V60

Posted by Lars Gudmund Aas to the Volvo Facebook page, I really, really hope that Volvo take note of this cool image and show it to the designers working on the new V60!

Volvo to shake up badges - S, V, C and XC to get reorganisation

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/ report that new CEO Steve Odell was rather confused by the odd badging regime used by Volvo to date, i.e. the C30, S40 and V50 are all built on the same underpinnings.

The new S60 will be the first car to slot into the new naming system in August 2010, fitting in neatly alongside the XC60 and the to-be-announced V60 wagon.

The same logic will be applied to all future model lines, cutting down on a range that current spans from 30 to 90; the S, V, C and XC letters will continue, however.

Spy shots of V60

The S60 design cues are clearly visible, along with the car's clear heritage in the V70 range. The rear, although camouflaged, bears a slight resemblance to the Saab 9-3 Sportcombi? I hope the seemingly ungainly rear overhang is as a result of the plastic additions to hide the production car's lines, and not from the hand of the designer...

Renderings of Volvo V60 estate revealed

Wearing the bold lines of Volvo’s new family styling, the V60 would likely feature the same engine options as the S60 sedan - including the EcoBoost 1.6 turbocharged direct injection engine.

Looking to take a larger slice of the prestige market, Volvo will likely aim the V60 at the likes of the BMW 3 Series Touring, Audi A4 Avant and Mercedes-Benz C-Class estate.

The 2011 Volvo S60 sedan is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March, and while there is no official word on a wagon variant, March is a long time away. In the meantime, a number of renderings have popped up from all over the web... (Credits for the renderings contained in the renderings).
